Programs
Programs that are offered at the CyberARTS Summer Camp are created based on age and interest, as well as the skill level of the campers. The specified ages are recommended starting points, after which the camper is free to progress in other programs regardless of age, or with the permission of the instructors. Each program is one week long, from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. Lunch is from about 11:45am to 1:00pm. For detailed program descriptions, please see below.

Level I. Graphics Design
$250/week; (Ages 7 - 11)

Classroom Size: 17 max, Instructors: 1-2, Assistants: 3+
Prerequisite: No previous computer experience required.

This course offers a light and fun introduction to computer graphics through creative activities. This also provides and opportunity for campers to meet others with similar interests in the arts and technology. The time spent in the course is divided up into interactive lessons, and plenty of time to work on their digital artwork with individual assistance from the instructors and volunteers. Our staff is also able to cater to campers who require more explicit or more advanced instruction on a one-to-one basis.

The following is an outline of the software they will be using:
Adobe Illustrator (vector illustrations)
Adobe PhotoShop (digital imaging, photo manipulation)

All campers will receive a maximum of five colour prints of their work.

Level II, Introduction to Graphic Design
$260/week; (Ages 11 - 16 or Level I experience)

Classroom Size: 20 max, Instructors: 2, Assistants: 2+
Prerequisite: No previous computer experience required, an interest in design recommended!

This course is directed toward campers who are interested in exploring and learning about computer graphics and their application in design. Campers who enroll in this course range from those who have worked with the software on their own but would like to learn more; to those with no experience with graphic software but with a keen interest in art and design. This course is a great way for junior high and high school students to explore the field as a personal interest or potential career path.

This course is also a pre-requisite course for our 2D and 3D animation courses, as well as the Web Design course.

The following is an outline of the software they will be using:

Introduction to 2D Animation
$260/week; (Ages 11 - 16)

Classroom Size: 17 max, Instructors: 2, Assistants: 2 +
Prerequisite: Level II, introduction to graphic design; Familiarity with graphic software and ability to create vector graphics will also suffice.

This course introduces students to 2D animation through Flash. The program is also used in the Web Design course to enhance web pages, but this course is designed to focus on aspects of animation. Campers will create their own design or use existing cartoon characters to create an animation. Campers will learn how to create illusions of space on a 2D surface, uses of colour to convey moods, and the process from storyboarding to final product. Campers with previous knowledge of Flash can learn about ActionScript; Flash’s built-in coding language.

Introduction to 3D Animation
$260/week; (Ages 11 - 16)

Classroom Size: 12 max, Instructors: 2, Assistants: 2 +
Prerequisite: Level II, introduction to graphic design; Familiarity with graphic software and ability to create vector graphics will also suffice.

This course is directed towards campers who are interested in learning more about Animation. Campers will learn how to model and texture characters and environments in three dimensions. From there, they will be able to animate their characters, learning techniques in virtual lighting and camera angles. This is a great way to explore your creativity in a three dimensional space!

Web Design
$260/week; (Ages 11 - 16)

Classroom Size: 12, Instructors: 2, Assistants: 2 +
Prerequisite: Working with computers at a comfortable level, understand of designing and creating computer graphics (equivalent to our Level II, Graphic Design courses).

This course provides an introduction to web site design without the requirement of previous experience with HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language) and JavaScript. Campers learn the basic elements and functions of a web site and learn to use Dreamweaver. If campers have also had experience with Flash they will have an opportunity to enhance their sites using Flash to incorporate other visual elements to their website.

The following is an outline of the software they will be using:
DreamWeaver (html authoring software)
Adobe Photoshop (digital imaging)

All campers will receive a CD copy of their website, as well as having it temporarily hosted on the CyberARTS Camp web site.

Anime-tion
$260/week; (Ages 7 - 16)

Classroom Size: 15, Instructors: 1- 2, Assistants: 2+
Prerequisite: Interested in Anime.

Japanese animation is one of the most exciting and influential media of recent years. With its distinctive style and vibrant colors, this dominant entertainment force has transcended the world of animation influencing movies, video games, graphic design, and even fashion.
Learn the core style elements and visual language of anime including: character design, dynamic poses, angles to suggest movement, and master character''s emotions and facial expressions!
