Critical Thinking

The best tech + art camps in NYC (and online everywhere)

Full of hands-on workshops both on and off the computer, focused on real skills

The Startup Simulator is an intensive startup camp for high school students. It is a hands-on program where participants learn real skills for building high-impact startups, from design thinking to prototyping and user testing.

In one week, campers go through the process of creating a startup for real-world impact. Campers leave with working prototypes that they’ve tested, marketed, and pitched. Camps start creating to solve their own problems, expand to focus on change in their communities, and then start looking globally. This camp focuses on how to make real scalable change through the medium of a company.

This camp is for anyone interested in building scalable solutions for real change from a place of empathy and community. Those who are interested in taking their ideas beyond the camp walls and continue building real businesses will get the skills to do that hands-on. Camp leaders bring experience from social impact startup incubators and Y Combinator, the world’s top-rated accelerator.

Campers will be introduced to:

  • Human-centered Design
  • Web and App Prototyping
  • Hardware Prototyping
  • Soldering Electronics
  • Arduino Programming
  • Supply chain logistics
  • UX Prototyping
  • Marketing Strategies
  • Pitching their Startup

Mari just finished Web Development this week and she raved about how much she learned, how much fun she had, and gave a lot of praise to the instructor. She said they were a great teacher (very patient and understanding).

“Attending classes with a live instructor was very beneficial to my son’s learning. We were able to interact and ask questions as we needed. There was great feedback and the live instructor was able to add personal touches to the projects. The instructor was very personable and quick to set limits when needed. My son enjoyed seeing other classmates’ projects and being able to post his project into the live chat.

This tool was a great introduction to coding but also went into more depth than just basic coding instruction.”

"[CyberArts Camp] is one of my favorite new startups. They had taken a shipping container, put STEM work stuff in sude, and young people were in learning coding, and tech, and internet of things inside. It was fabulous."

Megan Smith, Former U.S. Chief Technology Officer, in Bloomberg News
